60th Day Mark

Today marks the 60th day that I've been here with my family in Roxas City. Again, I apologize for not updating my blog as much. It's a good thing for me, however, cause it means I have too much going on, which is how I want my exchange year to me!
I'll fill you in on what's been happening since August.

Mid-August - Founder's week for my school. One whole week with no classes! My schoolmates and I participated in events like parades and watching basketball games (basketball is really important for my school. Top athletes ranging from 15-20 yrs old are imported to our school to play from different parts of the Philippines, like Manila and Iloilo).

Beginning of September - the 3 French AFS students in Roxas left because they were only on the summer program ): it sucks because only then did I become really close to them. We had a despedida (farewell party) for them the Friday night before their departure. Our friends all came and boy was it a good night. One I forsure won't ever forget.

Now - busy with school and spending time with my host family and friends. CAPRISA (basketball game week where all the teams in the province of Capiz play against each other) is in 2 weeks, which is another week off from school! I'll be busy supporting my school's high school and college team. Go Jaguars <3 Then another 2 weeks of school, then semester break! I do like going to school - seeing my classmates and learning more of the language, but when I'm on holiday, it's waaay more fun to go out and do something with my friends and host family.

I've also been learning alot of the dialect here, Ilonggo, rather than the actual national language, Tagalog. But I don't mind. It's funny actually - my host sister and friends speak to me in Ilonggo now. Not all the time, and not difficult words - just enough for me to be able to keep up the convo. I can understand really well, but I can't really speak it. When texting though, I spit Ilonggo gameee.

How are you: Kamusta kana (slang: musta kna?)
What are you doing: Ga ano kana da? (gaano kada?)
Have you finished eating: Tapos kana makaon? (tapos kna kaon?)
Where are you: Diin ka na? (dn ka?)
Who are you with: Sino upod mo? (upod mo?)
I don't know: Wala ko kabalo (ambot)
Whatever: ambot cmo
It's true/agreed: gani
Liar: butigon
Hungry: gutom
Full: busog
Hot: mainit (init)
Wind: mahangin (angin)
Crazy: buang
Cool: astig

I Can't Think of a Title

HI EVERYONE SORRY I HAVEN'T UPDATED IN FOREVER.
Okay so since last last time I posted, I was living in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, Philippines. Things weren't working out so well with like anything, so AFS Philippines transferred me. I am now living in Roxas, Capiz AND I LOVE IT HERE.
My host family consists of a dad, mum, sister my age, two older brothers, host cousin, and two helpers. The house is beautiful, I have my own room, and I am close with my host family - especially my dad, sister, and host brothers' girlfriends haha!
I started school at Hercor College High School Dept. a few days after I arrived. I had theee best welcome ceremony and the excitement still hasn't died down. I'm sure all the other Southeast Asian YESers know what I'm talking about.
Roxas City is growing on me no doubt. It's a small city, but a beautiful one. I go to the mall and beach (Bay Bay) almost everyday cause that's the usual routine here. I even met the mayor, Alan Celino, and we're tiighhhtt.
Heaps of pictures are on my facebook: facebook.com/alexhadiyantoo

Now a change of topic because I can't be bothered to start another post.
I posted about the Bali Nine situation a couple of months ago. Now it's all done and in the past, yet it seems to be like everyone is still keeping it on the tip of their mouths.

It disgusts me that people are hanging on to this point of view. DRUGS ARE ILLEGAL IN INDONESIA, especially sneaking them into the country then selling them!! Heaps of drug cases happen like this in other countries, yet I don't see half as much hate on those countries' presidents like I see with Joko Widodo. This angers me so deeply because after how many years, Indonesia finally has a strong and well-rounded president to get them out of this terrible economy. However everyone is giving Jokowi trouble for abiding with the LAW. Ugh. Get yourself together, tourists. Terserah kalau kamu tidak mau liburan di Indonesia lagi, pasti negara ku menjadi lebih bersih dan tenang.

Sunday Night Bliss

A few hours ago, right after a delicious meal of carbonara, my host cousin took me up to the rooftop. It was very dark, but there were a few distant lights on from the mall nearby. It was a nice view... All was peaceful and calm. The environment led us to having a really deep talk about our personal relationships, religion, and life. I thought alot and it was nice hearing about someone else's opinions, in a nonjudgemental conversation, salamat Manang Irene.

My Soon-to-be Life

Now that everything's winding down, I've had way more free time than I'd prefer. Since yesterday, I went a straight 40 hours without sleep so naturally, I passed out for a good 12 hours. Still have a fever and my body is aching, so I'm in bed writing this blog post.
On Saturday, the other Philippines finalists and I received our host families! We were all stoked considering the fact that we've been waiting for this info since we got our finalist emails.

The city that I will be living in for the next year is Dumaguete City, Philippines. It is the biggest city of the Negros Oriental Island located in the central part of the Visayas. I feel so blessed to have been placed here because I specifically mentioned I wanted to be in a beach city so I could continue my surfing and Dumaguete City is exactly that!

My host family seems AWESOME. I emailed my host sister and we talked on Facebook - I have a host father, host mother, older host sister, and younger host brother. I'm really excited to meet them and spend my year with them!

As for my host school - I will be attending Silliman University High School. One of the YES Abroad finalists last year, Kennedy Quigg, got placed in this exact city and went to the exact school that I will be attending, so it's very comforting to hear about her envious experiences.
